The stadium that welcomes and exalts Catania and the people of Catania, stronghold of a great and sincere sentiment, has been entitled since 20 June 2002 to Angelo Massimino , historic President of the Elephant club on several occasions, between 1969 and 1996 .
Currently, the plant also houses the operational headquarters of the Catania Football Club.
The acknowledgment of the city to the figure of the late " Knight ", who died in a road accident when he was returning from yet another long car journey necessary to reiterate the sunny reasons of Catania , is valid as a thank you for the generous work: for many decades , Angelo Massimino was " man alone in command ", passionately committed to the attempt to bring out the only true team of the heart of Catania on the national football scene. The first denomination of the Catania plant that stands in Piazza Spedini originates from the city district that hosts it: Cibali .

The "Massimino" stadium is currently equipped with 8 access gates , 3 2 electronic turnstiles for the recognition of titles and spectator access, 9 emergency exits , 11 internal cameras , 69 external cameras , 12 positions in the control room with 23 monitors for video surveillance. The internal separation elements of the sectors reach a height of 3.5 meters, well above the reference standard, and are equipped with a small barrier.
On 16 December 1956 , Catania played a prestigious friendly match: the Piazza Spedini stadium gave political-sporting asylum to the club which at that time was the strongest in the world, the legendary Honved Budapest led by the champion Ferenc Puskas, among the best shooters of all time.
