Catania Women kicked off their season with a convincing and emphatic victory: in the preliminary round of the 2026/2027 Women’s Coppa Italia, the Rossazzurre claimed a 6-1 away win over San Marino Academy.
The Sicilian side therefore advance to the first round of the competition, which they will play at home. On a date yet to be confirmed between Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September, they will face Serie A side Ternana Women in a single-leg tie.
Catania made an excellent start to the match, already showing plenty of quality and understanding between the returning players and the new arrivals. Silvestro Reitano’s side established a two-goal lead in the first half: Martina Tamburini opened the scoring with a tap-in following a fine move by Mari Liis Lillemäe, before Alessia Cammarata doubled the advantage from the penalty spot after a handball from Giorgia Spinelli’s shot. Spinelli herself added the third goal shortly after the restart, finding the top corner with a superb long-range free kick.
The substitutes then made their mark: Giorgia Termentini provided two assists, first setting up Tamburini for her second goal and then Isotta Nocchi, who in turn played a key role in creating the opportunity for Kristina Teern to score. D’Elia netted San Marino Academy’s goal to temporarily make it 1-4.
